2004-03-22, Rope Dress
So I got the idea to tie a whole garment out of rope that Dee could legally wear in a public bar. It worked out so well, I even removed her regular steel collar and made one of rope for the evening. I had a request from the Yahoo AdultRopeArt group for photos, so I decided to describe the dress in this journal entry.
The dress is made with nine 30' ropes, and the net is composed entirely of square knots (reef knots to you Brits). I start at the neck with one rope behind the neck and tie a single square knot between the breasts. Then I add several ropes around the neck using lark's heads (and when you pull on the lark's heads, they turn into more square knots). The sleeves are made by adding an extra pair of 15' ropes on each shoulder and then making more diamonds.
The hem of the skirt is done with scallops of rope tied with sheet bends. You can also use sheet bends instead of square knots when making the net. I finished off the wrist cuffs and neeck using Lew Ruben's "rose" weave knot. It took me about 10 hours over the course of a month to make the dress and "underwear". That's why I haven't untied them. |
