You'll remember from the Ball of Twine Tie that November is
Global Rope Month.
So in a effort to help reach the goal of 50,000 feet of rope used this month,
I spent last weekend buying and dyeing 5,400 feet of rope to add to our rope
collection, in preparation for the MOAT, the Mother of All Ties.
We are very pleased to claim a World Record for the "Human Ball of Twine" with the most rope
(in the single rigger division). We have submitted an application to the Guinness World Records web site,
and will know in a month or two whether they will sanction the this event. If they do, we
will very likely have to repeat the tie with suitable witnesses for it to be recognized.
So for now, this is an unofficial world record.
Here are the stats:
And for style points, you'll note that it's a suspension!
This was close to the limits of Dee's physical endurance.
The only way to put significantly more rope on her would
be to have an assistant handing me the ropes as the tie
progresses.
